Pubs

Mr Pickwick's, according to a scrolling LED display, is the oldest English pub in Switzerland.  It's the first pub I've been to for a while that I actually like.  Why? - because Geneva is a non-smoking canton.  There's no smoking inside this pub, which means that I don't get sore eyes :)

Anyway, I know what you're thinking.  Why am I telling what is, effectively, the whole world about a small pub in Geneva?  Well, it stops Adam from complaining at me for not updating!

Bye.

I've got a new MP3 player :)

Though I think the name PMP (Portable Multimedia Player) would suit it more, as I have no MP3s on it (such a primitive format).

Yes, almost 2 years to the day, I've replaced my aging brick, the Creative Zen Vision:M, with the brand new Zen X-Fi.  I only got the 16GB model because I "only" have 6.8GB of music, and I seriously doubt that I'll need more than 16GB in the next 2-3 years...

The 16GB model (as well as the 32GB) has WiFi built in.  But, unlike the iPods which seem to have forgotten what they're for, the Zen X-Fi uses the wireless connectivity for media things, such as streaming songs from a media server at home, or from Creative's online servers which dish out podcasts.  Most of these podcasts seem to be Australian radio shows, for some reason, but they are pretty funny (I've only listened to the 'comedy' section so far), so I have no problem with it.

As for X-Fi, or 'Xtreme Fidelity', combined with the supplied earphones (which cost 100Fr by themselves - almost a third of the total cost of the player!) the sound quality is top knotch (is there a K ?).  The battery will last 35 hours playing music - roughly 35 times the batterly life boasted by today's most "innovative" gadget, the iPhone!)

Creative claim that the player is credit card sized, though I've never seen a credit card that's 13mm thick.  //Sarcasm off.

I've also made a new poll to reflect this post.  Jesus out.

Sorry it's been a while...

I just haven't gotten round to adding anything recently.  I've finally sorted out the good pictures/videos from the Paléo Festival last week.  Check them out in the gallery if you're interested.

On the subject of pictures, I started playing around with our new camera.  As you'll see in some of the firework pictures in the Paléo album, I started leaving the shutter open for about 5 seconds to get a blend of 2-3 fireworks.  This worked pretty well, so I moved onto lightning when I saw a storm over the Alps.  They didn't come out too well, but they were a lot better than I thought they would be.  See here.

Meanwhile, only 2 more weeks working full time!  Just as our office gets "expanded", too...

No One Click the Thing!

That timer thing at the top - no one click it.  I want to see if we can get it to 100 hours :).

That's all, folks.

Not much to talk about

Apart from being robbed.  Everyone at work is getting new offices or bigger offices or whatever.  But not us.  No, the IT crew who make sure you can actually do your jobs all day don't get squat.  Even the server room is getting an extension.  All we get is a new desk.

Anyway, I start working at 40% from the 18th August, so I won't be in this cupboard as much (horaay Laughing).  But I will be at university.  Still, even being half-buried in horse manure would be an improvement.

I went to see Hancock last week and would encourage you all to do the same (tis a good movie).  And I finally got round to seeing Cloverfield, which is also brilliant, so long as you can stand the jerky camera movement (it's filmed as though it's from a camcorder).

Finally, I found this funny picture:

Petrol prices

Oh, and I just put a new poll up.  Good, eh?
