About Me

Creeping Jesus [krping jzəss] n
Derogatory slang

  1. an obsequious or servile person
  2. a hypocritically religious person

Let's go with the first definition. Funny thing is, I only just looked that up after having this nickname for pushing 8 years now, and it's scarily accurate! Although, the second definition couldn’t be further from the truth. Anyway…

The story of CreepinJesus began one Christmas in the UK. He didn’t like his first Xbox Live Gamertag much and, as it was now shared with his sister, it had become awkward to use due to frequent invites from friends that weren't his. So, he signed up for a new one using a "2-months free" card he had, and bosh! - CreepinJesus was born just after Christmas.

It wasn’t long before CreepinJesus and a bunch of his friends on Xbox Live came together to form the clan, “Jesus and Pals”. They never actually did anything in the form of ‘clan matches’ – just hung around together playing various games as time went by… Halo 2, PGR 2, Splinter Cell, and Rainbow Six: Black Arrow were the usual ones. Eventually, the clan name died off, but they still play as a group when they can.

These days, you’ll find CreepinJesus lurking around a lot of technology blogs and websites.  He’s still a casual-ish Xbox gamer, and currently plays mostly Forza 4, Halo: Reach, and occasionally Battlefield 1943. So, hop over to his Xbox Live Profile to see what he’s up to, and maybe join a game?

The Real Me

So... the blog! This blog is primarily a repository of things I think would be good to remember, but also things that I think would be good to share (see the definition at the top).  Some posts may be really helpful to you, while others may be completely useless.  You'll see there is (or will be) no specific 'genre' to this blog - it is just a collection of posts relating to whatever it is I'm doing at the time; could be playing around with Windows resources, could be oiling a door hinge, or throwing nuts at squirrels.

I'm currently working as a "Senior Software Engineer" in Geneva, Switzerland.  So far, I've developed mostly SharePoint web parts as part of my job, but in my spare time I do things like this. The plan is to be a web developer one day, which is why I'm trying to learn as much as I can in ASP.NET/C#, HTML, and CSS. This website is more or less my staging environment where I can test my creations and see what people think, and learning from any mistakes!

  • Opening Windows PowerShell in the current directory

I came across this little trick on tripledot.be and thought I’d share it here, too.

I’ve been using the Shift + Right-click > Open command window here shortcut for years, but there isn’t such a link for starting PowerShell in the same fashion. Or so I thought…

  • What's wrong with Google's numbers?

I noticed recently that Google shows a massive amount of results, even for searches that you’d think are fairly uncommon. I also noticed that the number of results seems to change a lot in the same search. Are they up to something? Are these numbers made-up? Is there a difference between a result of the search and a result that’s shown to the user? Continue reading...

  • Some ideas for film/book-based games

Here’s a few ideas for some new games that some friends on Live and I came up with a couple of days ago. They’re nothing serious, but they could actually work pretty well if made by the right people (i.e., not EA). Continue reading...
