The beta (test) version of the new Windows Live Essentials (Messenger, Writer, Movie Maker, etc) is now available to download free from the Windows Live website.

I’ve just been playing around with the new Messenger, which you can connect to all kinds of services – I linked Facebook and Last.fm to mine and it seems to be working pretty well.
