The “workshop” (a shed with a power supply) at the bottom of our garden is now home to a model railway; something our family has always had, come to think of it! I’ve just finished pinning down the track and wiring everything up – I even have point motors in this time! Getting adventurous…
Before I spray the track that grimy brown track colour, I’m waiting for all my locos to come back from the shop – they’ve had a proper clean and going over (some are quite old and grubby), as well as having DCC chips fitted. I think it’s a good idea to not paint the track until I’m sure all the wiring is working correctly, though I have done a short length of test painting and ballasting (see below).
Talking of wiring, there are 2 main loops to the layout. I have designed it so that the outer loop is isolated from the rest of the layout and, thanks to a switch, can be used to run the Live Steam Flying Scotsman I have without having to take all the other trains off the track.
Here are a few pictures of the current state: (click to open in full size)

I’ve also repainted one of my older locomotives (back from the shop!) – a GWR 0-6-0PT. As I’ve got older, I’ve become more into the realism side of railway modelling rather than the ‘play’ side, so I gave this loco some detailing. It might not be exact, but it certainly looks better than it used to. Now to master weathering…
